Neuchâtel-Murten-Skate
Overview
Intro
An enchanting inline skating experience between city and countryside: this tour runs through lake scenery between Neuchâtel and Murten. It combines the urban charm and dynamism of the university town with the tranquillity of nature and Lake Murten.
Description
The tour begins in the heart of Neuchâtel, a town rich in history and culture. Before you set off, take a walk through the cobbled streets: the well-preserved architecture and lively squares enable you to immerse yourself in the dynamic atmosphere of the canton’s capital. With your inline skates on, the tour takes you via panoramic paths, shady slopes and green-lined streets. On the way, unique views open up on the Jura, the vineyards and the wide fields of the Seeland area.
After Lake Neuchâtel comes the Laténium, the largest archaeology museum in Switzerland, covering an area of 2,200 m2. It documents the everyday life of our ancestors, exhibiting around 3,000 finds that were discovered in the area. Bathers gather at the large sunbathing area on the beach at St. Blaise. Past Marin-Epagnier, there is an attractive but short stretch along the Zihl Canal. After this, the journey out into the wide fields is also attractive, entering the Ziehl Swiss vegetable growing region via Ins: the valley between Lake Neuchâtel, Lake Biel and Lake Murten is the largest vegetable growing area in Switzerland.
The Broye Canal divides the village of Sugiez into two halves. It is worth taking a detour. The town, with its extensive sandy beach, is considered to be the gateway to Vully, the smallest of Switzerland’s large wine-growing regions. The trip then ends with the arrival in Murten and its attractive old town. You can relax under the arcades here and enjoy a coffee. From the city walls, there is a superb view of the lake and Mont Vully.
