Description

The Europahütte hut is located at an altitude of 2,220 metres on the Lerchberg between Randa and the Domhütte hut. The view of the Weisshorn is very impressive from here. This stage runs on the Europaweg trail, known worldwide for its view of the Matterhorn, but also for its uniquely stunning sections.

No sooner have you started, you find yourself in front of the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the Alps. The Charles Kuonen suspension bridge is 494 metres long and 85 metres high and runs across an impressive gorge into which small and large boulders repeatedly fall. Further along the path, the Europahütte hut becomes smaller and smaller and chamois seem to feel at home in this area.

The hike runs through an attractive coniferous forest with a viewing window of the snow-covered Weisshorn, up to Grüengarten. From Wildikin, a small side valley, you glimpse the peak of the Matterhorn. There now follows a spectacular section along the rock face and through a tunnel carved into the rock. If you are lucky, you will see some Edelweiss on the way to the stream. The mountain flower with its white felt-like petals is strictly protected and has cult status in Switzerland. It is the emblem of an airline and countless alpine motifs, and can also be found in the Switzerland Tourism logo.

Alternating between ascents and descents, this stage continues to Täschalp. The Matterhorn reveals itself in all its glory. You can fortify yourself at the Europaweg hut, followed by the enjoyable part of the hike to the Tufternalp restaurant. From here, the hike takes you on a comfortable path to the destination for this stage in Zermatt. The car-free mountain village marks the end of the breathtaking, varied and panoramic route from Saas-Fee via Grächen to Zermatt.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
