Intro
A nice route easily accessible to everyone which takes you through the Rhone valley between farmland and forest belts. A journey on the water's edge: the river Rhone, Lake Geneva and the Stockalper channel. Not to mention the picturesque villages and many restaurants.
Description
The tour takes you from Le Bouveret train station towards Lake Geneva along the docks, animated up to the doorstep of Swiss Vapeur Parc and Aquaparc.
From Le Bouveret, follow the river Rhone to the Castle Porte du Scex, built in 1597 it hosts the Chablais Museum, which offers regular cultural exhibitions. This route is closed to traffic. Then continue towards Vouvry. Follow the banks of the Rhone to Illarsaz where you have the opportunity to stop at the World Cycling Centre UCI.
Before arriving at Collombey-le-Grand you pass near by the refinery. Cross Collombey which is dominated by the Bernardine monastery established in 1647. The tour continues through the heights of Muraz before following the Stockalper channel and the nature reserve «Rigoles» of Vionnaz and it's peatlands. A short climb takes you into the old town of Vionnaz. After a small detour you arrive near the Great Wall where a bench invites you to take a break and a beautiful viewpoint of the Rhone valley.
Continue towards Vouvry and les Evouettes then you follow again along the Stockalper channel. Kaspar von Stockalper build this channel in 1648 to improve the transportation of different merchandise such as salt.
Once at Le Bouveret, the route continues towards St-Gingolph through the hamlets «Esserts» and «Vignolles».
You pass a fountain in the shape of a boat where healing mineral water springs before returning to Le Bouveret along the Lake Geneva.
