Walserweg
Overview
Intro
From the beautifully situated Sertig Dörfli, surrounded by an impressive mountainous landscape, the route climbs up to the Tällifurgga. Along the way, you have Swiss stone pines, larches and brave downhill bike riders for company. Then the descent begins: through wild, Alpine landscape until you reach Rüedisch Tällialp, before an incredibly steep section down to the Dischmabach stream. The course of the stream takes you to the final, gentle section into Davos Platz.
Description
Sertig Dörfli lies at the very far end of the mountain valley of the same name. It’s surrounded by blooming meadows, dense forests and a breathtaking mountainous landscape. From the mini village, a path climbs uphill to the right, past the Swiss stone pines and larches in Bäbiwald and along the bike trail. Even above the treeline, bikers show off their skills. Looking back into the valley, you can see the barren mountain peaks of the final stage: Hoch Ducan, Plattaflue and Mittaghore.
While the bike trail continues towards Jakobshorn, the hiking route branches off to the right. In autumn, the hillsides are resplendent in their hues of red, yellow and green. The trail – lined with dwarf shrub heaths – continues to wind its way up to an altitude of 2,567 metres. Suddenly, out of nowhere, people appear: not so surprising, since you can easily hike along the ridge from the Jakobshorn tramway to the Tällifurgga.
Now the descent begins: over somewhat rocky terrain down into the Rüedisch Tälli valley, then on along the path, just above the stream, to the Rüedisch Tällialp. This is followed by probably one of the steepest gravel roads in the world. A 450-metre descent has to be tackled over just two kilometres. Despite the beautiful view into the longest side valley in Davos, this section can’t exactly be described as a leisurely hike. Once you’ve reached Boda, you can cool down with the refreshing water of the Dischmabach stream.
This marks the end of the difficult section. For the final hour and a half, you follow the Dischmabach stream to the valley mouth. The last stretch through the Mattawald forest ends in Davos Platz, the destination for this leg and the highest situated Alpine town.
