Zurich's local mountain at 871 meters offers you a magnificent view over the city, the lake and the Alps. Hike along the Planet Trail, discover bike trails, ski down into the valley in winter – or simply enjoy the view.
The Uetliberg at a glance
The Uetliberg is located at 871 metres and can be reached by S-Bahn (line S10) directly from Zurich's main train station in around 25 minutes. The Fallätsche on the southern slope has been a nature reserve since 2009. The Uetliberg is popular all year round – in summer for hikes and bike trails, in winter for tobogganing and snowshoe hikes.
What to experience
View from the Uetliberg summit
Once at the top, climb the observation tower and, on a clear day, see from the city of Zurich over Lake Zurich to the Alps. The ascent of the tower is subject to a fee. The summit restaurant offers catering and outdoor seating – ideal for a rest with a view.
- Good to know: The steel truss tower can be reached on foot via 178 steps.
- Tip: The Zürich Card is also valid for the S10 to Uetliberg.
Hiking on the Planet Trail (2 hours)
The Planet Trail connects the Uetliberg with the Felsenegg and maps the distances in the solar system over a walking time of about 2 hours. Each meter corresponds to 1 million kilometres. From the sun you hike past the 8 planets to the dwarf planet Pluto and learn interesting facts about the celestial bodies.
- Good to know: The Planet Trail is suitable for families with children.
- Tip: Take the cable car back to Adliswil and the S4 to Zurich main station.
Tobogganing on the Uetliberg
In winter, you can toboggan on the 3.1-kilometre-long toboggan run from Uetliberg to Triemli – with a difference in altitude of 330 metres. And watch out: The route has it all. The city of Zurich prepares the slope daily. Families with small children use the toboggan slope at the Ringlikon station with advantage.
- Good to know: Bring your own sleds – there is no rental on site.
- Tip: The toboggan run is also open at night – bring a headlamp or flashlight.
