Early detection has an especially important role to play in the treatment of breast cancer.
More gentle therapy is often possible as a result, and the chance of achieving a cure is increased. Mammography is the most commonly used diagnostic method for screening or in cases of suspected breast cancer. In pre-menopausal women, the time during or shortly after periods is the best to undergo a mammogram because this is when the breasts contain the least fluid.
