Overview

Hello everyone! Have a great time in Lucerne. A must on every trip to Switzerland. Nestled in an impressive mountain panorama, the city lies as the gateway to Central Switzerland right on Lake Lucerne. Not far from there are the many mountains offering a magnificent view over Switzerland. Historical houses richly decorated with frescoes, the medieval Chapel Bridge, and the Musegg Wall tell stories and history. Present and past stand side by side. Uniquely nostalgic That steam engines are still in service on Swiss routes today is something special. On Lake Lucerne, the second-largest prestigious Belle Epoque fleet in Switzerland is in operation. Five steamships are in daily scheduled service. Thus, the unique heritage is proudly and enthusiastically preserved in its original form. Spectacular ship and train journey – Gotthard Panorama Express When a journey becomes an experience, you are in the panoramic carriage on your way between Central Switzerland and Ticino. You experience history, enjoy the panoramic view of the Alps, and are fascinated by the engineering skills of the time. Bellinzona – the fortress city in the heart of the Ticino mountains The landmark "Tre Castelli" as well as the narrow alleys, the Piazza, and the backyards, and the sensitively restored old houses are significant and impressive witnesses to medieval fortification architecture in the Alpine region. The Central Switzerland Express travels along six lakes. You will definitely press your nose against the large panoramic windows to take in the wonderful mountain-lake panorama. A boat trip on Lake Brienz is included FREE of charge. In Switzerland, the Jungfrau as well as the Matterhorn magically attract visitors from all over the world. Together with the Eiger and Mönch, the mountain forms the majestic three-peaked mountain of the region. In front of you is the "Top of Europe" in its majestic, perfect grandeur. You stand in awe before this magnificent creation. Full steam ahead to the Brienzer Rothorn. You’ve always wanted to go high up. And of course, with full steam. No problem. It chugs and steams, it squeaks and smokes. Really a quirky idea: the only Swiss rack railway with daily steam operation has been delighting visitors since 1892. Enjoy the magnificent 360-degree view from the 2,350-meter summit! And because the captain is so nice, you get to board the steamship "Lötschberg" once more. Incidentally, it has been in service for over 100 years and remains as good as new. Daily, the alphorn players give a concert on the Schynige Platte: for free. You can’t experience the warm sounds of this Swiss instrument in a more fitting way. The echo resounds from the mountains. Simply enchanting! You are completely captivated. But you can also experience full steam on the "high (Thuner) Lake". In the 19th century, tourism in the Bernese Oberland took off. And consequently, so did excursion shipping: since then, the steamers "Blümlisalp" and "Spiez" have been making their daily rounds here. The striking mountain known as Niesen stands out from afar with its height of 2,362 meters above sea level. It is the weather mountain of the Bernese Oberland. An old farmer’s rule usually hits the nail on the head. "If the Niesen wears a sword, there will be rain. If the Niesen wears a hat, the weather will be good." The almost perfect pyramid shape of the mountain has inspired artists time and again. Today will certainly not be boring. Rather, it will be varied. You are traveling on the Swiss panoramic trains GoldenPass Express and Glacier Express. The magnificent mountain landscape is a world where small, large, and very large natural wonders form a paradisiacal backdrop. Dark forests and lush green meadows, deep valleys and high, steep cliffs, sparkling rivers and lakes with charming small towns and large cities on their shores come together in a harmonious whole. Shortly after Spiez, the GoldenPass Express leaves Lake Thun. Experiencing how a train suddenly changes its track gauge during the journey is already unique. Up through the Simmental Valley, it goes to the chic resorts of Gstaad and on to the elegant Belle Epoque era on Lake Geneva. Unfortunately, you won’t have time in Montreux to ring Charlie Chaplin’s doorbell unannounced. Because in Brig, the legendary Glacier Express awaits you. One of the many highlights is the journey through the legendary gorge of the Vorder- and Hinterrhein rivers. The Bernina Express Which Alpine crossings could be considered the most spectacular, craziest, and unfortunately also the saddest? The craziest and saddest are those of Hannibal and Suvorov. Both Alpine crossings were military campaigns. They intended to attack the enemy from behind. The most spectacular Alpine crossing of modern times is the train journey over the semicircular Landwasser Viaduct and the Bernina Pass. It is the most beautiful connection between the cool north and the warm south. Together we sing, "As we climb dizzying heights, ascending to the summit wreath." The inclines of up to 70 per mille are mastered without rack-and-pinion drive. Alp Grüm, the tangible summit of your train journey, is reached. From here, it’s steeply downhill. As the valley opens up and transitions into the unique landscape of the Valtellina, a sense of freedom arises. At the Brusio spiral viaduct, you turn around and arrive in Poschiavo. With its picturesque village center, narrow alleys, and beautiful, well-preserved patrician houses, it enchants its guests. You can take our word for it. You will be more delighted by Poschiavo than by Tirano. Chur in the Rhine Valley. The oldest city in Switzerland and also a bishopric. Above the old town towers the Episcopal Court. The old town is completely free of car traffic. Continuously restored, it is now one of the most intact old towns in Switzerland. The end of your journey Tschiertschen. It is considered one of the most beautiful mountain villages in the canton. Here, everything simply invites you to slow down and enjoy. How you will get here, I won’t tell you. It will definitely be different than you’re used to.
