Allein im Ozean: Extremsportler Romano Mombelli - Der Weg nach Honolulu
Overview
Intro
Romano Mombelli, the Solothurn extreme swimmer and water ambassador of Solothurn Tourism, invites you to dive into the vast world of open water swimming. Last August, he crossed the English Channel as the second Swiss swimmer. He will share stories about his new project: swimming around Manhattan in New York. This will be followed by an invitation to an aperitif.
Extreme swimmer Romano Mombelli will recount his great aquatic adventure, the crossing of the Kaiw’i Channel between O’ahu and Moloka‘i, in a striking show of images and videos.
Return to zero hour: back to where it all began – and where ten years ago, in the dark night around 9:00 pm off the coast of Moloka‘i Island, an initial attempt failed – to Hawaii, the antipode of Solothurn.
The route covers about 55 swimming kilometres through the Kaiw’i Channel between O‘ahu and Moloka‘i, where challenging sea conditions prevail. The start takes place during optimal currents in the time window from 15.09. to 21.09.26 at 3:00 am on the almost uninhabited Pacific island of Moloka‘i.
This allows the deep channel centre to be passed in daylight, as potential sea creatures are not hunting at this time. Initially, there are about four hours of absolute darkness and intense blackness with bioluminescent effects in the Pacific until dawn breaks – special conditions.
The event is supported by the city of Solothurn.
