Gruhalde clay pit
Overview
Intro
Young geologists look for fossils. At Gruhalde Clay Quarry, children can set to work with a hammer and chisel on the tracks of historic reptiles. The archaeological site with the digging area is situated nearby the Frick Reptile Museum.
This is where the plateosaurus bones were found which are on display in the Saurier Museum in Frick. It is the only plateosaurus site that is still accessible, and is well-known among collectors for its numerous fossils. A special area has been set aside for fossil hunters (a «hammering place») where pieces of rock containing fossils are accessible. You can come here at any time to look for fossils – no need to pre-book!
Starting at Frick Reptile Museum, an informative dinosaur educational trail leads to the digging area in Gruhalde Clay Quarry.
