Les Chemins de fer du Kaeserberg
Overview
Intro
Two kilometres of model railway track in 1:87 scale run on three levels, populated by 120 trains with 1,560 wagons and 6,500 miniature figures. This technical marvel is a miniature world full of great moments to inspire visitors young and old. All aboard!
This extraordinarily detailed landscape could be anywhere in German-speaking Switzerland. The railway, natural world and everyday life have been meticulously recreated with great care: a castle ruin stands resplendent in the sunlight, colourful church windows gleam and rotating blue lights reveal the presence of the police. Countless headlamps and rear lights indicate road traffic and trains constantly wind their way through the scene like illuminated snakes.
The private project to create this unique model railway took about 20 years, five of which were spent on the night mode alone. Since 2015, visitors have been able to watch the change from day to night every half hour: each night lasts for six minutes. You can also stand in the cab of a real Gotthard locomotive (by arrangement) and drive a train yourself. It's easy to slip into the role of an engine driver without realising it...
See www.kaeserberg.ch for opening days; booking required for the Ae 6/6 simulator.
