Loipe Lenk–Zweisimmen
Overview
Intro
From Lenk to Zweisimmen along the roaring Simme: With the warming sun on the back, the cross-country ski trail in the valley offers a lot of variety and magnificent views of beautiful wooden houses, a castle and the surrounding mountains.
Description
After a glance back at Wildstrubel, which majestically completes the vast Simmental, the cross-country ski trail starts at the exit point of Lenk. From Wallbachstrasse, just below the "Wallbach Bad", it goes gently ascending and descending to Lenk-Boden past the Simme edged by trees.
From Lenk-Boden, a fast and straight stretch of about one kilometre awaits the cross-country skiers, now along the right bank of the Simme. The route further ascends and descends gently in the direction of Matten. Especially ambitious skiers can then be pleased about the good two kilometres long, dead straight "racing track" above the former military airfield of St. Stephan. From Holzwerk Rieder, the path lead through a wooded section and further to Hotel Diana. Above the hotel, there is the historical church of St. Stephan; its history goes all the way back to the early Middle Ages.
You reach the village of Blankenburg with the castle of the same name over an open field. Mentioned for the first time in 1328, it burned down completely in 1767. The architectural monument of regional importance was then built in the style of a late-baroque Bernese Campagne and is today used mainly for weddings. At least equally impressive: the old wooden houses with their splendid façade paintings. They bespeak old art of carpentry and line the path up to the destination of Zweisimmen. For the rest: If you complete the cross-country ski trail in the reverse direction, the sun shines into your face – with a magnificent view in the direction of Wildstrubel.
