Waldhaus-Conn-Loipe
Overview
Intro
This gently undulating circular trail winds its way through the mystical Flimser Grosswald forest. The culmination and turning point of the route is at Conn, with its fantastic view over the Rhine gorge.
Description
The trail towards Conn starts on slightly hilly terrain as it crosses the meadows of Rens. Passing by the hedges, cross-country skiers enjoy a wonderful view of the snowy Graubünden mountains for a short while before entering the enchanted winter forest formed by the Flims Rockslide. Mossy mounds, pines, beech trees and bizarre boulders surround them all the way to the clearing at Conn.
This is where the spectacle begins: suddenly, skiers have a clear view of the Rhine gorge about 14 kilometres long, also known as «Swiss Grand Canyon». The steep, white walls reach heights of 350 metres above the Anterior Rhine that meanders through the gorge below. It’s also well worth making a detour to the «Il Spir» viewing platform. After a well-earned rest at the inn in Conn, the trail winds its way back to the starting point in Flims Waldhaus.
The cross-country trails in Flims can be reached by postbus, then on foot or by local bus. The cross-country skiing centre is about a 15-minute walk from the Flims Dorf Post or Flims Bergbahnen bus stop.
