Music from Hungary by Zoltán Kodály, Sándor Veress, Antal Doráti, György Ligeti and a premiere by Zurich composer Mischa Käser
Zoltán Kodály was a professor at the Franz Liszt Academy from 1907 and led the composition class there until 1940. His students included Sándor Veress and Antal Doráti. Veress became Kodály's successor in 1942/43. His students included György Ligeti and György Kurtág. After moving to Switzerland, Veress was appointed Professor of Composition at the Bern Conservatory in 1950. He influenced an entire generation of Swiss composers, including Heinz Holliger, Jürg Wyttenbach and Roland Moser. Mischa Käser, whose "Eight Impromptus for Wind Quintet" will be premiered at this concert, was in turn a student of Roland Moser and is therefore a musical great-grandson of Kodály.
