Heir to over two centuries of history and deeply marked by the legacy of Anton Bruckner, the orchestra is known for its rich and luminous sound. Markus Poschner, a familiar figure to Swiss audiences, conducted the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana for ten years before joining the Sinfonieorchester Basel in 2025. His precise and committed conducting brings tension and life to every page. To open, the incandescent heroism of Beethoven’s Egmont blends struggle and freedom into a striking dramatic amalgam. Then, Saint-Saëns’ Concerto No. 1, tying its three movements into a single, vast Allegro, reveals balance, clarity and virtuosity, amplifying the rich tessitura of the cello. Following in the footsteps of the great cellists invited by Noda BCVS – Anastasia Kobekina, Kian Soltani, Pablo Ferrández, and soon Gautier Capuçon – Julia Hagen exhibits all her natural audacity. And the apotheosis? Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4 – known as the ‘Romantic’ – deploys medieval resonance, the famous hunting Scherzo, mysticism and light: an irresistible orchestral breath.
