A round trip from Flims to the Glarus overthrust in the area of the UNESCO 'Sardona Tectonic Arena' World Heritage Site. Brunch en route in the Nagens Alpine hut.
By PostBus from Laax (or from Flims, change in Laax) up to Alp Nagens in 30 minutes. You can savour a hearty Alpine brunch here at weekends; products from the local Alpine meadows are available in the week. After a 45-minute hike, you reach the Segneshütte hut, also a mountain inn.
This is the location of the new UNESCO World Heritage visitors' pavilion for the Sardona Tectonic Arena, with fascinating explanations, maps and geological profiles showing the formation of the Alps.
The nearby Lower Segnesboden area affords views across the plain to the Martinsloch crag with its 'hole', and the thrust line towards the Tschingelhörner peaks.
Visitors descend to Flims via the Flims Water Trail (Trutg dil Flem, 3 h) or they can take the high hiking route to Alp Nagens (1.5 h) and the chairlift down to the valley.
