Intro

Lake Murten truly is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. Due to its relatively shallow depth, Lake Murten warms up relatively quickly, so it reaches pleasant bathing temperatures earlier than elsewhere.

There are bathing spots, most of them with sandy beaches, in Merlach, Muntelier, Sugiez, Nant, Praz, Môtier, Salavaux, Avenches, Faoug and Greng. So practically every village on Lake Murten has its own lakeside bathing area. The only really large lakeside bathing area, the Strandbad Murten, is in Murten itself.

Aside from bathing fun, Lake Murten and its surroundings offer a lot more besides. The lake is particularly popular with sailors. There are sailing schools in Murten and Faoug. Boats can be tied up at moorings that are dotted all around the lake. Wakeboarders, windsurfers, kitesurfers, stand-up paddle boarders and rowers can be seen on the lake.

By the way: competitions are held in various disciplines throughout the summer in Murten (Murtenlauf, VullyRun, SurfClassics, Seeland Triathlon, beach volleyball tournaments, etc.). To find out more, consult the events calendar.

Getting there: By train, bus, boat or car.
