Alpine Panorama Route
Overview
Intro
Alpine marshland in rain-rich Glaubenbielen and a biosphere reserve around Schrattenfluh. No less enchanting: the hills and dales of the Emmental, classic, pre-Alpine rolling countryside.
Description
The Sörenberg holiday resort is situated in the middle of a spectacular moor landscape and towering mountain pine forests. The people of Entlebuch are proud of their UNESCO biosphere reserve. No wonder: The views from Salwideli to Schrattenfluh with its wild karst fields are awesome. Near Küblisbühlegg the downhill path is quite rough and you will be glad to have decent brakes and slightly bigger tires on your bike. Wavering past the herds of bell-clanging cows you might ask yourself whether this is really a bike path or maybe a mountain hiking trail. Anyway, you can’t get lost here and soon enough you will arrive at the Kemmeribodenbad restaurant with its legendary meringues desserts. They literally melt in your mouth.
Melt water from the Emme runs under the bridge at Kemmeribodenbad in the spring. The source of the river is between Hohgant and Augstmatthorn in the border area between the Bern and Lucerne regions. Once you leave this peaceful place - although there is a lively hustle and bustle here on occasion - where Beat Feuz, the local downhill world skiing champion, has his own theme trail, you are already in the lovely Emmental valley. The landscape with its countless hills, bumps and slopes and marvellous old farm houses is breathtaking.
A 15-minute hiking trail in the “Steinmösli” nature preserve leads down into a ravine – an experience you should not miss. Schallenberg Pass with its long straight passages is gorgeous and the motorcycle riders know it too. Crossing the Röthenbach you continue via Kreuzweg to Schwarzenegg. The openness of the area is likely to surprise many, but don’t forget, this is Emmental-style openness. During the leisurely ride through the community of Fahrni you will enjoy the lovely views of Zulgtal valley and the roofs of the old Zähringen town of Thun, today’s destination.
