Intro
The cross-country ski trail in Degen is located at the eastern edge of the village near the freestanding chapel of Sogn Bistgaun. The trail first meanders over a meadow; flat parts alternating with small uphill and downhill sections. The mountain backdrop along the way includes Péz Terri, Péz Regina and Pala da Tgiern.
Description
Degen, sunny and mild, is located in a south-facing valley. Some people may be familiar with the village because of the Lumnezia open air. Every summer the festival brings around 15,000 music fans to the fascinating mountain region. The same amazing panorama is available to cross-country skiers, although without the sounds of rock & roll and heavy metal. But the efforts on the trail are sweetened by the fantastic views of the snow-covered mountains, such as Péz Terri, Péz Regina and Pala da Tgiern.
The cross-country trail meanders about 4 km over the plain of Degen and describes several loops across the relatively flat meadow. The chapel of Sogn Bistgaun, one of Degen’s three places of worship, is completely freestanding. On the inside of the chapel is a baroque altar, while the original painted wooden ceiling is located in the Swiss National Museum in Zurich.
Longer flat parts alternating with short uphill and downhill sections along the way make the trail interesting. It is groomed for classic cross-country skiing and for skating and it is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned skiers.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
