Schwarzbubenland-Route
Overview
Intro
The section from Beinwil to Kleinlützel reveals the «Schwarzbubenland» as one of the jewels of North-western Switzerland. Passing through hilly countryside and the Laufen valley, the bus route offers a large number of outlook points and historical attractions along the way.
Description
The tour starts in Beinwil/Neuhüsli, just above the working monastery at Beinwil. After a rapid downhill drive with a magnificent view, the road follows the River Lüssel as far as Erschwil. A detour can be made to the ruins at Thierstein - a medieval citadel, which was restored and a modern concrete extension added after it collapsed in 1997. The route continues through hilly countryside to Bärschwil at the northern foot of Mount Fringeli where a geological walking tour guides visitors round the village.
At the now disused train station in Bärschwil in the valley, there used to be an iron foundry in which the ore extracted in the region was processed in the 17th century. The glassworks and the memorial to local historian Albin Fringeli still stand there. A short stretch of the route takes us through the Laufen valley along the River Birs to the mill at Liesberg. After the climb to Liesberg, the PostBus passes the dwarf garden in Hugger forest and the road ends in Kleinlützel, a village belonging to the canton of Solothurn and where pipes used to be manufactured. Nowadays, visitors can tour the Pipe and Cane Museum.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
