Description

Behind you the tourist magnet of Luzern, along the blue-green Reuss to Reusszopf, confluence of the Emme and Reuss, where farmers’ leaders were once hanged on the Richtplatz. Jets from the Emmen military airfield occasionally howl overhead, a few pedal pushes later you are met by almost surprising peace and quiet in forest and field.

The shallow Baldeggersee, a protected haven with 300 species of plants, then the Hallwilersee, the smallest Swiss lake with scheduled cruises, invites you for a swim. The outflow is crowned by the moated Hallwyl Castle. Now an easy pedal along the Aabach into the old town of Lenzburg, towered over by its mighty castle, once the seat of the Bernese governor. A majestic baroque-style castle with magnificent castle gardens in bloom, together with rose garden, history-steeped shrubs and climbing rose plants awaits you in Wildegg.

With a smile through Aaretal, water-meadow country and up to Bözberg, where Romans once crossed the pass (cart tracks at Effingen). Past the impressive Linner Linde (linden) down to Frick, where you can marvel at Europe’s oldest dinosaur and munch cherries. Soon you reach picturesque Stein and the Rhine.
