Description

Tössegg is a lovely, much-visited excursion destination on the Rhine. The route runs through the untere Tösstal valley with its cultivated fields and vineyards, first rural then with signs of industrialization creeping in. Winterthur, Switzerland’s sixth-largest city is touched to the west, where the large Rieter Engineering Works was created from a monastery. Workers’ houses were built in the Chrugeler quarter, now a lovely, flower-filled residential district.

The Töss becomes more and more winding. Often a raging torrent after a thunderstorm and now tamed by numerous factory canals, generating a lot of power and also sorrow. The 17th-century world of the booming cotton industry can be experienced in the Neuthal Industrial Museum.

Tössbergerland is a narrow main valley with forested summits and steep molasse slopes, its side valleys rugged ravines. After the Fischenthal fens, the river becomes the Jona, the landscape opens out with panoramic views of the Alpine chain and you reach your goal, the Zürichsee at Rapperswil.
