Introducción
Around Basel there are a lot of different energy and drinking water facilities with a neutral to positive environmental impact which can be experienced by our visitors.
The tours around drinking water, organic waste processing, waste incineration and hydropower offer a wide range of interesting insights into the Swiss energy and environment strategy. The focus of the tours lies on the importance of the energy transition with renewable energies and also how you can make the best out of waste and other unpreventable byproducts. For example at the biopower plant the visitors see the importance of waste separation and the possibilities organic waste offers in the production of fertilizer and climate-neutral gas. Better known are hydropower plants. At Birsfelden and Augst you experience the importance of hydropower for the renewable energy sector. Learn about the functionality of a hydropower plant and also about ecological aspects such as the fish and beavers living around the area. At two drinking water facilities you learn where drinking water in Switzerland comes from and how the different cleaning processes work. You see directly into the source and experience how nature is the main actor in cleaning the water. The people become aware that there is no need for chemistry in water purification, if we look after our soil and environment. Additionally the visitors learn how much and for what we use our drinking water in Switzerland and Europe in comparison to the bare minimum in third world countries. We discuss questions like the use of potable water for flushing the toilet and watering the garden. In the end everybody does a water blindtasting to experience the difference between bottled and tap water. Different tours around Basel:
