Inauguration of the "Memorial Mattmark"
On August 29, 2026, the new Memorial Mattmark will be ceremoniously inaugurated in Saas-Grund. The memorial commemorates the victims of the Mattmark tragedy and creates a place for remembrance, encounters, and shared commemoration. The public and all interested parties are warmly invited to participate in this dignified memorial ceremony.

Program:
10:00 am | Gathering at the Church Saas-Grund - Ceremonial Memorial Service, musically accompanied by the Church Choir Saas-Grund.
Blessing of the wreath in memory of the victims.
Subsequently, the wreath will be laid at the site of the disaster in Mattmark.
11:30 am | Cultural Center Sonnenhalde, Saas-Grund - Inauguration of the Memorial (monument and memorial plaque with the names of the victims) as well as the permanent exhibition
(photos, films, documents, and historical objects related to the Mattmark tragedy)
12:00 pm | Speeches by the Italian and Swiss authorities
1:00 pm | Conclusion of the memorial ceremony with an aperitif offered by the organizing committee
