Opening of the new exhibition.
The Langmatt Museum is presenting the first institutional solo exhibition in Switzerland by Berlin-based French artist Emmanuelle Castellan (born 1976 in Aurillac). For more than 25 years, she has been working in the fields of painting and drawing, often creating site-specific painterly installations. After serving as a professor of painting at the Institut Supérieur des Arts de Toulouse from 2012 to 2019, Emmanuelle Castellan has been teaching as a professor of painting and drawing at the Haute École des Arts du Rhin in Strasbourg since 2019.
Her paintings balance with dreamlike grace between figuration and abstraction. Figures, faces, interiors, and vases appear sketch-like, fragile, and translucent – as if in a dream world, far removed from our everyday reality. Her works radiate a remarkable silence and solitude – at times liberating, at times oppressive. As if veiled, they withdraw from the clamor and frantic pace of our present.
The artist has already been featured in two group exhibitions at the Museum Langmatt: Langmatt, Light, Dragonflies – Impressionism Yesterday and Today (2016) and Best Regards (2022). In her solo exhibition, she will primarily showcase new works created specifically for Langmatt.
Followed by a reception.
