The name of the village, Gletsch, says it all: it is clearly a place near a glacier. And indeed, that was once the case.

In those days, the guests of the Hotels Glacier du Rhone were able to dine with a view onto the nearby ice flow. Nowadays, the Gletsch nature trail gives an impression of what was once the mighty presence of the Rhone Glacier. During a tour that takes about 30 minutes, five information points describe moraine walls dating from various eras, pioneer plants, the dynamics of a glacier river (the Rhone in this case), fauna in and alongside the stream, wetlands and low-moor bogs.

How to get there:
Drive or take public transportation from Brig or Andermatt to Gletsch on the Furka Pass.
