Getting to the Hotel Rothorn Kulm (2266 m.a.s.l.) is quite an experience. No prosaic getting there by car or even by aerial cable-car but by steam-driven rack-and-pinion train. The ride there can even be made more romantic by getting to Brienz by a paddle-steamer from Interlaken plying Lake Brienz and Lake Thun.
This is a popular day excursion but opting to stay the night has its advantages: one feels like one owns the mountain and the silence, broken only by the clamoring jackdaws, is immeasureable. Open from June till end of October.
How to get there:
Drive or take public transportation to Brienz, ride the mountain train to Rothorn, by car or Swiss Post Bus to Sörenberg, Sörenberg - Rothorn by aerial cable car.

Romantics will be fascinated by the sunset and the unique ambiance.
