111 Echoes from Halifax
Overview
Intro
On September 2, 1998, the crash of Swissair Flight 111 off the coast of Halifax changed the lives of many people forever.
But “111 – Echoes from Halifax” does not recount the disaster itself—but rather its aftermath. The film follows people in different countries whose fates are intertwined by the tragedy. Family members struggle to find answers about their loved ones, rescuers try to offer comfort, and residents of the Canadian coast are confronted with the traces of the tragedy. As time passes and questions remain unanswered, the film shows how grief brings people together, changes relationships, and gives rise to new perspectives.
Director: Mauro Mueller (CH/2025), Germany, ages 12 and up, 97 min.
