AT HOME - ON THE GO - LIFE ON A BOAT
Overview
Intro
The ship is a workplace, a home, and a living space all at once. Seven personal stories from people who felt at home while on the move. Models and the 4-minute film transport viewers to a bygone era.
The ship is a workplace, a home, and a living space all at once. A place to live, work, laugh, and stick together—but sometimes also a place of farewells and longing. The new special exhibition tells personal stories from inland waterway shipping—of people who felt at home while on the move. Seven people. Seven stories. What was it like to grow up on a ship? What did it mean to be on the road with your family? And how does it feel when you’re suddenly no longer allowed to come along? In addition, two ship models give a glimpse into life on board—including a model of a ship’s living quarters. The exhibition is complemented by the film “Weisch no?” In this roughly four-minute film, two people talk about times gone by and their memories of life in the shipping industry. In a personal, intimate, and lighthearted way, the film takes visitors on a journey into a bygone world.
