Conference - The Golden Age of Leysin – Air, Sun, Health
Overview
Intro
Attend a lecture exploring the fascinating history of Leysin and its medical era.
At the end of the 19th century, the village was chosen by physicians from the lowlands to establish one of Switzerland's leading tuberculosis treatment centers.
Thanks to the benefits of its pure mountain air and abundant sunshine, Leysin quickly gained an international reputation. For nearly 70 years, thousands of patients came here to be treated.
One of the few remaining people to have undergone four years of heliotherapy will share vivid memories of the first clinic established by Dr. Rollier, *Le Chalet*.
What remains today of this remarkable chapter in Leysin's history? What traces still allow us to understand this defining part of the village's identity?
In an increasingly stressful world, could modern-day Leysin draw inspiration from this legacy by developing "Wellness and Health" offerings that help restore balance to body and mind?
The lecture will be presented by Véronique Bernard, a certified heritage guide and specialist in Leysin's medical history. She is co-director of the films *Leysin: 100 Years of History* and *Living Memories*, a collection of 15 recorded testimonies, and the author of several publications dedicated to the region's cultural and historical heritage.
