GLORIA – Italian Baroque
Overview
Intro
The Basel Madrigalists and the Colla Voce Consort, conducted by Raphael Immoos, present masterpieces of the Italian Baroque: Vivaldi, Corelli, Torelli, Cavalli, Durante, and Marcello.
The Basel Madrigalists’ program “Gloria” takes listeners back to the heyday of the Italian Baroque—an era of extraordinary musical diversity, virtuosity, and sonic splendor. Composers such as Arcangelo Corelli, Giuseppe Torelli, and Antonio Vivaldi had a lasting impact on the development of instrumental music, just as Francesco Cavalli, Francesco Durante, and their contemporaries opened up new avenues of expression in sacred vocal music.
The 18 musicians of the Basel Madrigalists and the Colla Voce Consort present exquisite vocal and instrumental works, finely balanced as a whole and richly orchestrated in detail. Solo and choral parts, movements from solo concertos, and sacred cantatas highlight the virtuosity and expressive diversity of the Italian Baroque in ever-changing ensemble configurations.
