From the abstract, neo-baroque forms in Bloch's Concertino to the fairy-tale atmosphere of Frank Martin's Pavane couleur du temps, to Ernest Chausson's Poème for solo violin and string orchestra, inspired by Ivan Turgenev's short story The Song of Triumphant Love (1881). The solo part is performed by the exceptional young violinist Maria Włoszczowska. In the second part of the concert, Maurice Ravel's string quartet (in a string orchestra arrangement) takes us into completely different worlds. In this impressionistic masterpiece, Ravel is restrained with subjective expression; passionate episodes are all the more effective because they are short and rare. Only the last movement is feverishly agitated. The first movement, characterised as ‘very gentle’, is of carefree elegance, as is the second movement. The slow movement glides along calmly and, like the whole work, shows more interest in the beauty of individual sounds and melodic forms than in a narrative concept.More about the KammermusikfestVideo recordings of past concertsPlaylist ‘Kammermusikfest 2026’ on SpotifyMusikdorf Ernen Festival OrchestraConcertmaster and direction: Daniel BardViolin: Mattea Anderes | Matteo Cimatti | Giulio Casagrande | Maja Horvat | Chiara Sannicandro | Maria WloszczowskaViola: Alessandro D'Amico | Lilli Maijala | Alinka RoweVioloncello: Francesco Dillon | Miquel Garcia Ramon | Samuel Niederhauser | Chiara SamatangaDouble Bass: Jordi Carrasco Hjelm | Jonathan Inniger
