Permaculture design is a systemic and holistic planning process for creating diverse, nourishing, and fertile landscapes in both urban and rural environments. The approach also includes participatory design of community projects and enterprises. At its core are ethical thinking and action, as well as fostering positive and beneficial relationships between people, animals, plants, and the elements. In this way, the needs of all living beings can be met creatively, supporting a sustainable way of life with diverse and resilient ecosystems. All living beings are part of the ecosystems being designed and contribute to their stability.
In this course, we will explore and apply the fundamentals of permaculture design. Planning tools will be introduced and practiced in group exercises. We will carry out a design exercise based on your own project or a sample case, allowing you to learn key permaculture design tools through hands-on experience. By the end of the course, you will have an overview of the most important planning tools, have taken initial steps on a project, and know how to continue working on it afterward. Additional resources for further learning and networking will also be provided.
No prior knowledge is required.
Course content:
History, ethics, and definition of permaculture
Design process, principles, and methods of permaculture planning
Practical examples
Hands-on design exercise using your own project or a sample case
What to bring:
Drawing materials (pens, paper, writing tools, ruler, etc.)
Documents for your own project if available (base map and/or aerial image, climate data, information on vegetation and soil, etc.)
Weatherproof clothing
