Ebenalp-Rundtrail
Overview
Intro
This circular trail on Ebenalp is particularly suitable for beginners on snowshoes – or as a less strenuous, enjoyable hike with plenty of views. With good visibility the panorama stretches over Lake Constance to the Black Forest.
Description
This easy circular trail starts right by the valley station of the Ebenalp cable car passing over open meadows to the highest point, the plateau at Ebenalp (at an altitude of 1644m). The view to Meglisalp, Schäfler and Säntis clothed in white, is like a wonderful winter fairytale. The panorama stretches over the famous scattered settlements of the Appenzellerland, to the hills of the lowlands and with good visibility even over Lake Constance to the Black Forest.
If the weather is good, the sun terrace at the Ebenalp mountain restaurant is an inviting place to escape the greyness of everyday life: You often look up from here onto an enormous sea of fog. With good thermals you can watch the paragliders launching themselves off the edge. After this the path continues downwards for a short while and returns to the starting point.
This tour is highly recommended for beginners and hikers with not much experience of snowshoes. Snowshoes are available free of charge.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
