Description

This bike tour starts and ends in Einsiedeln, a place of pilgrimage with its impressive Abbey. The main feature is Hoch-Ybrig: a trip to the skiing area just outside Zurich is worthwhile even in summer. It's also worth pausing to enjoy the panoramic view from the highest point on the tour: the Spirstock. On a clear day, you can see the varied landscape that characterises this region – mountains, lakes, meadows, snow and water.

The mountain trail above Lake Sihl with a view all the way to Zurich first leads to Unteriberg, where it crosses the valley floor. After the river Waag, the biggest challenge on the tour begins: a tough climb on a dirt track to the health resort of Oberiberg in its sunny location. Bikers can top up their fluid reserves at the village well before taking on the challenging ascent along the route of the Roggenstock ski lift.

Though the steepest section is now complete, the trail goes even higher, running on gravel roads past the dreamy Lake Seebli, a perfect place for fishing. The highest point on the tour, the Spirstock, offers a wonderful view of Schwyz's two local mountains, the Grosser and Kleiner Mythen. Along the ridge through the high moorlands and marshes of Ibergeregg, the Mythen peaks come ever closer before revealing their full size in Brunni. The trail finally runs out of the valley and back to the monastery village of Einsiedeln.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
