It doesn't always have to be the Alps: Langenbruck-Bärenwil is a winter sports region that has retained its family atmosphere and manageable size. Alongside ski lifts, there are also cross-country ski trails. Bärenwil cross-country ski trail lies on an idyllic plateau.

Description

Langenbruck, the highest district in the canton of Basel-Country, was formerly a health resort, primarily for guests from Basel. The spot was known for the Erzenbergschanze ski jump, built in 1955. The jump, which was Switzerland's biggest at the time, acted as a magnet for the world elite. In 2000 the last official competition took place there in the shape of the Swiss Junior Nordic Combined Championships. In 2010 the old ski jump was dismantled due to lack of interest by the younger generation.

The cross-country ski trails still enjoy enormous popularity. Bärenwil cross-country ski trail lies between the first two Jura chains, on a wide, high plateau (approx. 800 m above sea level). The route is varied, offering passages through sometimes dense forest, varying climbs and descents, as well as sections in open spaces with a view over the Beretenchopf hill (1,104 m above sea level).

The après-ski programme continues in the cosy Restaurant Chilchli, located directly next to the trail. The Bärenwil Langenbruck health centre is also situated in the hamlet of Bärenwil. Here you can rent out the cross-country skiing dog Lilly, ideal for interval training on skis.
