Intro

This circuit offers magnificent vantage points of Lake Neuchâtel. Between Grandson and Concise, it crosses the Bonvillars vineyard and countless characterful villages.

Description

Starting at the Place du Château in Grandson, the route leads to the lake. It's well worth touring the mediaeval village centre and the castle. Built in the 13th century, the castle played an important part in the Burgundian Wars fought against Charles the Bold. It houses an impressive collection of weapons and armour, as well as a museum featuring the history of the Burgundian Wars. Farther along the itinerary next to the lake and up to Concise, you can access countless lakeside sites and beaches to cool down.

There are several restaurants and accommodation possibilities in Concise, a welcome stop to take a stroll through the old town and the port. The route makes a turn here and continues somewhat further away from the lake, past the battlefield where Charles the Bold and the Confederates fought in 1476. The Battle of Grandson, from which the Swiss eventually emerged victorious, was one of the three great battles of the Burgundian Wars.

Then you will cross the entire Bonvillars vineyard and pass through a few typical vintners' villages, such as Champagne with its international reputation. After crossing the river Arnon, the route leads across meadows, past small hamlets back to Grandson.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
