After passing through Burgdorf and crossing the Emme River, a right turn brings you onto a minor road that leads through dense forest and up to high plains towards Hueb, past grand farmhouses with heavy-lidded hip roofs that protect them from bad weather. A highlight is the Lueg, where locals seek out sunshine when fog cloaks the valley below. Picture-book hamlets like Heiligenland, pretty gardens and wide open meadows give a snapshot of farming life in the Emmental on the drive to Affoltern i. E.
