From Maloja to S-chanf

A small trickle leaves the Lunghinsee above Maloja and digs its way into the valley. This is the source of the Inn river, at an altitude of 2,484 metres. The Inn Cycle Path, on the other hand, begins around a 50-minute walk later and is almost 670 metres lower in altitude – in Maloja itself. The first part of the Inn Cycle Path winds through golden forests, with every stroke of the pedal proving to be a real pleasure. Suddenly, a clear mountain lake appears – with the panorama reflected on the smooth surface of the water.

The start of the Inn Cycle Path

The Inn Cycle Path starts by leading through the impressive Upper Engadin. From Maloja, the route continues along the Inn through St. Moritz, Celerina and S-chanf. Cyclists can expect impressive mountain scenery, traditional Engadin architecture, the Engadin Lake District and beautiful river passages, e.g. near Bever. Here, thanks to restoration work, the river has been allowed to find its own way again. But one of the real highlights is the Upper Engadin Lake District, which includes Lake St. Moritz, Lake Silvaplana, Lake Champfèr and Lake Sils. Situated 1,800 metres up, it is popular with water sports enthusiasts in summer and winter sports enthusiasts in winter. Many smaller mountain lakes can also be found here, hidden in the surrounding forests.

On the northern slope of Piz Lunghin, near the Maloja Pass, lies the Lägh dal Lunghin – at 2,485 metres up, it is the source of the Inn and part of the watershed between the Danube and the Po. Born as a young mountain stream, the Inn takes its course, grows, winds through valleys and cities, before finally flowing into the Danube. A river that tells of the beginning, of transformation and of letting go – like a journey that writes new stories with every kilometre.
