Intro

The kidney is a high-performance organ: Each day, it filters all of the blood in our bodies up to 300 times.

Damage to renal tissue is irreversible and will also affect other organs. Nephrology focuses on conditions that are expressed in restrictions of kidney function (kidney failure), urine changes, water retention (oedema), kidney and bladder pain, high blood pressure or renal colic. Dialysis, or the cleansing of blood with artificial kidneys or through the peritoneum, is one of the most commonly known procedures carried out by this specialty.
