Intro

Stillness, snowy landscapes, Surselva: An initial ascent from Curnius takes you through snow-covered forests, over open meadows and two wooden bridges to remote Alp Dadens – an ideal place to take a break in the warming winter sun. On the way back, there are panoramic views into Val Lumnezia, towards Ilanz and across to Obersaxen.

Description

Curnius can be reached by cable car from Laax or Falera. The snowshoe trail starts at the mountain station and heads west. It initially follows the winter hiking trail to Crap Sogn Gion for a few meters. However, you leave the hiking trail again before it crosses the ski slopes. You begin the ascent: Through open meadows and sparse forests, you climb to an altitude of 1,800 metres. While you’ve reached the highest point of the tour here, there is another climb at the end.

Through the dense forest along the summer hiking trail, then over an open meadow and two wooden bridges, you finally reach Alp Dadens. It’s the perfect place to take a break. Although there’s no catering in winter, you can picnic here in the sun. Around 50 metres below the Alpine hut, the trail plunges back into the forest on the summer road. You follow this downhill for around two kilometres.

The final kilometre begins: The trail climbs again, upwards across open meadows back towards Curnius. There are panoramic views towards Signina, Ilanz, Obersaxen and into Val Lumnezia. The mountain station and the Tegia Curnius Alpine hut mark the end of the trail. You’ve earned a break here after the tour: They serve typical Grisons dishes such as the house speciality maluns with Alpine cheese and apple purée.
