What to experience

Trip to the Diavolezza (7 minutes)

From the valley station it goes up 900 meters in altitude. After just a few metres you will see the glacier tongue of the Pers Glacier on the left, the rock faces of Piz Palü on the right. The higher you get, the wider the view becomes: The Piz Bernina is getting closer and far below the Engadine Lake District is slowly appearing.

  • Good to know: You can book tickets online or directly at the valley station at the train station.
  • Tip: Families benefit from family discounts at checkout (not online).

Sun terrace with glacier view

Once at the top, you sit on the panorama terrace of the Berghaus. In front of you: Piz Palü and Piz Bernina, including the Pers and Morteratsch glaciers. In the restaurant you can try Veltliner specialties such as pizzoccheri or the spaghetti diavolezza with beef, tomato sauce and brandy. You can also stay overnight at the Berghaus.

  • Good to know: The Berghaus offers packages for snow sports enthusiasts, hikers and mountain fans.
  • Tip: The Berghaus is located at 2,978 metres above sea level – sun protection is a must.

Glacier Experience Trail and via ferrata

From the Berghaus you start on the Glacier Experience Trail (1.5 hours). The marked circular trail takes you over glacial grinds and moraines close to the Pers Glacier. Information stations explain the glacier world. For climbing enthusiasts, two secured via ferratas lead to Piz Trovat – one for beginners, one for professionals.

  • Good to know: The via ferratas are open from June to October.
  • Tip: You can book glacier hikes with a mountain guide at the Pontresina mountaineering school.
