The construction of architecture in Ticino, 1939-1996. Materiality and tectonics
Overview
Intro
The exhibition offers a reinterpretation of more than fifty years of Ticino architecture through one hundred buildings selected for their interest from a construction point of view.
The exhibition "The Construction of Architecture in Ticino, 1939-1996. Materiality and Tectonics," curated by Franz Graf with Britta Buzzi, Carlo Dusi, Alessandro Bonizzoni and Sebastiano Verga, offers a rereading of more than fifty years of architecture in Ticino through one hundred buildings selected for their interest from the point of view of construction. Documented with drawings, models, images and archival materials, the buildings are observed through a close look with reference to their physical dimension: that is, the materials, construction techniques and structural systems that become tools for understanding the tectonics and poetics of these architectures.
The exhibition project stems from the 20-year research work developed within the Construction and Technology area of the USI Academy of Architecture. Through the analysis and redesign of buildings, students have progressively built an open catalog of modern architecture in Canton Ticino, highlighting its constructive value and pedagogical potential.
In particular, the exhibition delves into twelve works represented by publications with critical texts, testimonials and dedicated study contributions.
A selection of models, some reports by Radiotelevisione della Svizzera Italiana (RSI) and a series of photographs made by Roberto Conte in 2025 complete the exhibition.
