Visit to the farm
Overview
Intro
What do the cows do in winter and where are they in summer? What work is there to do on the farm? Four Appenzell farming families provide information right in the middle of the action.
What do the cows do in winter and where are they in summer? What work is there to do on the farm? Four Appenzell farming families provide information right in the middle of the action. On Wednesdays or Saturdays, you can take a look in the barn on their farms with their beautiful views, watch the cows being fed and learn interesting facts about cows, cattle, calves, sheep, goats, milk and machines from young and old. Gain an insight into the diverse activities and challenges of Appenzell agriculture. Appropriate footwear is recommended.
At Vorderhalten, Hansruedi and Luzia Rohner follow a holistic approach and with fruit trees, vegetable cultivation, chickens, dairy cows and pigs, the farm is almost self-sufficient. Hansruedi's knowledge of interrelationships, cycles and the rare, sometimes endangered animal breeds that have their home in the Vorderhalten is particularly fascinating.
To get to the farm, we recommend a hike, a trip by car or transportation by PubliCar. We will be happy to help you with reservations.
