Ride the Alps
Overview
Intro
Quickly or slowly, By using only your muscles or an electric motor: the "Ride the Alps" events offer to bikers unique experiences by temporarily closing the passes to traffic.
We look forward to welcoming you for a ride to the Moiry dam on your race bike, mountain bike, electric bike or any other cycle. With no timing and at your own pace, you will be able to enjoy the natural surroundings by riding on roads closed to motorised traffic. Participation is free. For safety reasons, booking is required online or on site.
Your ride starts in Chippis, a small village located in the plain along the Rhône. A small road leads you to Brie, passing nearby the Ricard bisse, then goes up above Sierre for a few kilometres, before joining the main road which leads to the resort of Vercorin. The route goes on along some cliffs and in galleries carved into the rock, allowing you to admire a panoramic view of the Val d'Anniviers. In Vercorin, the route heads towards Pinsec and then goes down for several kilomètres passing by the typical hamlets of Mayoux and Saint-Jean. As you start climbing again, you will enjoy the view on the Matterhorn and Dent Blanche. The first part of the road is wide and easy. From the typical village of Grimentz onwards, the route becomes steep for five to six kilometres and requires more effort, until a short flat section and two last hard kilometres to the Moiry dam. The arrival, at an altitude of 2250 metres, is close to the crown of the dam overlooking the lake.
