Scything and Peening – Workshop with Hermes Thöni on 05.07. or 25.07.
Overview
Intro
Learn the traditional art of scything and peening: how to adjust, sharpen and care for a scythe, and apply the mowing technique with joy and a healthy rhythm
Introduction to scything and peening.
There are many reasons to mow with a scythe: it is gentle on wildlife, supports biodiversity, is inexpensive, quiet, emission-free, avoids waste and requires no petrol, electricity or mechanic.
It is a traditional skill and old craft that fits perfectly with permaculture. The rhythmic movement in the fresh air is also healthy and great fun—especially when you have a well-adjusted and properly sharpened scythe and know the basic technique. This introductory workshop focuses on exactly that “know-how”:
individually adjusting and setting up the scythe
peening and sharpening as the basis for enjoyable mowing
correct mowing technique and body posture
scythe care and storage
Alongside theoretical basics, the workshop mainly offers plenty of opportunity to learn through practice, with expert guidance and lots of time to train and enjoy the process.
