The HR Giger Museum at a glance
The HR Giger Museum in medieval Gruyères houses the most extensive collection of the Swiss artist. On display are works from all creative periods: Paintings, sculptures, film designs for Alien and other projects. The museum bar at Château St-Germain is also a work of art in biomechanical style.
What to experience
Alien and Biomechanical Art
Experience the originals that made HR Giger world famous. At the museum, you'll see his Oscar-winning designs for the movie Alien, life-size sculptures and the famous biomechanical paintings. The dark rooms enhance the effect – you enter Giger's mythical-magical world. The collection also shows designs for films such as Dune or Species.
- Good to know: Young people under the age of 16 are only allowed into the museum if accompanied.
- Tip: Combine the visit with a trip to Gruyères Castle – there is a combined ticket.
Permanent and temporary exhibitions
The museum shows Giger's work from the 1960s to the present day. In addition to series like "The Spell" or "Passages", you can see his film sets, furniture and airbrush work. On the top floor you will find Giger's private art collection. The museum gallery also presents temporary exhibitions by other artists of fantastic art.

Walk-in art – the HR Giger Bar
The HR Giger Bar is located – like the museum – in the Château St-Germain. Giger designed it completely himself: Ceiling, walls, floors, furniture – all in his typical style with bone and skeletal shapes. You sit under arched rib arches like inside an organism. The bar is also accessible without a visit to the museum.
- Good to know: The bar is barrier-free, the museum is not.
