Königsfelden Abbey (Kloster Königsfelden)
Overview
Intro
A Habsburg place of remembrance
Königsfelden Abbey is internationally renowned for its medieval stained-glass windows. Exhibitions, guided tours and events bring the 700-year-old abbey church back to life.
The abbey was founded in 1309 by Queen Elisabeth in memory of her murdered husband, King Albrecht of Habsburg. The double abbey with Franciscans and Poor Clares existed until 1529. Today, the most notable remains of the complex are the imposing abbey church with its famous stained-glass windows, a masterpiece of late-medieval glass painting.
