Directly on Lake Lugano, MASI will show you Ticino art in dialogue with Switzerland and Italy in the LAC cultural centre. You walk through halls and changing exhibitions and look through glass facades to the lake and mountains.
MASI Lugano at a glance
The MASI in Lugano in the canton of Ticino is one of the most visited art museums in Switzerland. In the cultural centre Lugano Arte e Cultura (LAC), the exhibition rooms are spread over 3 floors with 2500 square meters of space. The collection comprises more than 14,000 works from the 15th century to the present day, with a focus on art from Switzerland and Italy.
What to experience
Visit the exhibitions at the LAC
You enter the museum through a 650-square-meter atrium that opens upwards over the full height of the building. 3 exhibition floors take you through modern and contemporary art, from major temporary exhibitions to works from the collection. Through the glass walls you can always look out over Lake Lugano.
- Good to know: On the first Thursday of the month, admission is free from 6 to 8 p.m.
- Tip: Combine your visit with Palazzo Reali, the second location of MASI.
Understanding the background on a guided tour
On fixed dates, MASI will guide you through the current exhibitions free of charge and explain the works and their history to you. If you want to dive deeper in a small group, book a group tour in German, French, Italian or English.

Visit the studio with the children
MASI collaborates with the LAC's Arts and Cultural Education Service (LAC edu) and also addresses its programme to families. Take your children on a ramble through the rooms and become artistically active with them in the creative studio.
