This sunny winter outing in the Finsterwald forest is perfect for those seeking peace and quiet in the midst of the Entlebuch moorland scenery. You'll pass a drilling platform (an industrial monument) and enjoy an impressive backdrop featuring the Schimbrig and the Fürstein.
Description
The panoramic winter hike starts in the sunny hamlet of Finsterwald above Entlebuch. The path begins by heading towards Entlebuch before turning off towards Bohrplatte and passing some houses via Nesslebrunnbode. The drilling platform at Bohrplatte is an industrial monument in the Entlebuch dating back to the 1980s, when gas was extracted. Information panels explaining the geology and history of gas production in Finsterwald may be found near the workings. Interestingly, you'd be hard put to find any other municipality in Switzerland that produced so much energy in so little space as here in Entlebuch.
The hike continues in the snow on a short stretch of path through the forest. Once back on the road, we continue through moorland along the Fuchseremoos to Wissenegg, enjoying imposing mountain scenery featuring the Schimbrig, Fürstein and Äbnistettenfluh. The road ends with a barbecue spot complete with a large wooden lounger to relax on. Breathe in the fresh mountain air and savour a few quiet moments before heading back.
You start by following the same road, then at the Bohrplattform fork you continue straight on and head directly for the village where you started.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
