Höhenweg Elsigenalp–Adelboden

This hike sets off from the Elsigenalp, which is reachable by cable car from Elsigbach. The Elsigenalp is an idyllic Alpine plateau unto itself, with a gorgeous mountain panorama over the entire Engstligental valley.

The trail is well prepared and family friendly. Setting off from the mountain lodge with its large sunny terrace, it leads past the Brandsee lake. If so inclined, you can swim in the artificial lake during the summer months, which is used as a reservoir for snowmaking in winter. If you fancy a barbecue, there are several fire pits and an Alpine beach with deckchairs for winding down.

After just a few minutes of walking, prepare to be wowed again once you are past the Metschegga: magnificent mountain scenery opens up, with unobstructed views of the Engstligental valley and all its further reaches. Passing by peaceful Alpine meadows, the trail undulates over the Alp Metsch and onward to the Bonderalp. From this point on, the High-Altitude Trail merges with the Via Alpina national hiking route and descends to your destination in Adelboden.

Both the topography and the nature of the terrain ensure a great deal of variety along the entire High-Altitude Trail. Sometimes the route follows wide gravel trails and other times meadow paths. If you’re looking for something more athletic, you can try the hiking route in the opposite direction.
